Week 4 Blog

On Tuesday the 2nd of March, my team and I discussed in our Whatsapp group-chat when to meet to discuss out project. We decided some time on Wednesday the 3rd would suit us all best. I have just got a new laptop this week so I needed to re-download the Second Life app in time to join this group meeting.

On Wednesday, we all agreed to meet at 2.15. We met in Second Life and gathered in the TUD classroom. We noticed we were missing Storm again, he wasn't in the group chat so he did not know about the plan for our group call. He is in my course class so I had his number and added him to our project Whatsapp group-chat. Unfortunately he wasn't available but we kept him updates in our group-chat.

We began the meeting slow, talking about the project brief and taking another look at the chosen topic we decided on last week.  This was the concept of in the future workplace, people won't be going back to work in the office, they will use virtual reality head pieces to join a virtual office in a second life.

We were looking at what is required from us in the project, we noticed that we had to look at a number of compulsory readings in order to get started on the project and none of us have had the time to do so yet.

I suggested that maybe it was a good idea if we assign two readings to each of us from the list and meet another day to discuss the readings we read. Others believed it was a better idea if we look at all of the readings ourselves, this probably is the better idea so as we have our own understanding of them rather than someone else's.

We decided that we would go and look at the readings on our own and have them complete by Sunday and arrange another meeting then to discuss the readings and begin further progress with our project. We said we would keep each other updated in our Whatsapp group-chat about our progress in the readings.

After the class, I read the first reading on the list 'The Future of Work: Job Hopping is the 'New Normal' for Millennials' by Jeanne Meister.

It was a productive meeting, we are making progress on the project which is good to see. I attached an image of us in our meeting.

In this meeting we mainly focused on establishing our goals and what is required from us for this project. This reflects the first step of Diogo Costa's "5 Steps to Build a Productive and Tight-Knit Remote Team". The first step he proposes is 'Identify Your Project Goals', in this section he states that the project goals should be the "rallying cry of your teams'. He discusses how important clearing the big picture is at the very beginning of a project.
